Muskan Jyoti Samiti is an organization registered under the society registration act 1860 working in the area of agro-waste and municipal solid waste management by the year 1994.
Muskan Jyoti Samiti (MJS) has developed a concept named SWASTI for municipal solid waste management that includes waste collection at source and safe disposal of waste through low cost transformation of biodegradable waste into organic manure. The work of organization has been appraised by several national and international organisation includes agencies like DFID and South Asia Environment and Social sector of World Bank reported it in Uttar Pradesh Environment Report 2003.
Organization is working with participatory approach and working for low cost solid waste management and creation of sustainable livelihoods for waste pickers. We are working in collaboration with corporate houses, public sector undertakings and urban local bodies in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Organization is working in various locations of Lucknow for garbage collection and disposal. It has started waste collection and processing of biodegradable in Chattarpur in collaboration with Nagar Palika, Chatarpur. We have developed a solid waste management centre for IFFCO Bareilly and have handed it over to them. Besides we have established and managing solid waste processing units at Lucknow University campus, ITC campus Saharanpur, Nagar Nigam Saharanpur, Nagar Palika Parishad Lahaerpur district Sitapur UP and a solid waste processing centre is going in HAL Campus Lucknow and Aamethee, Sultanpur UP. The participatory model has generated direct employment for more than 1800 persons.
